Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has today welcomed news that Riverside Primary, located within Perth, will officially open its doors on Tuesday, 13th June 2023.
The new primary school, which benefits from Scottish Government funding, is built on the grounds of North Muirton Primary School and will take in pupils from both North Muirton Primary School and Balhousie Primary School. It will also be Scotland’s first Passivhaus primary school, ensuring that the building is environmentally-friendly, future-proofed and energy efficient.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said: "I am delighted that an official opening date has been confirmed for Riverside Primary, marking it as Scotland's first Passivhaus Primary School. The sustainable design of the building highlights Perth and Kinross Council and the Scottish Government’s commitment to providing quality learning environments whilst also taking steps to tackle the climate emergency. This is also further proof of the Scottish Government’s commitment to Perthshire, and represents a significant financial investment in the future of our children.”
“This project demonstrates the potential of energy-efficient design in educational facilities. To that end, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all those involved in the planning, design, and construction of Riverside Primary, and pass on my best wishes to the teachers, staff, and students who will undoubtedly contribute to the success of this school."
"Riverside Primary serves as an example of how we can work towards a more sustainable approach to education in Scotland. I hope this innovative school encourages others to consider eco-friendly options in the future, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this new school has on the local community in the years ahead."
