Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has formally put forward his views on the Stone of Destiny’s future.

Mr Swinney’s official submission, made via the Scottish Government’s website, formalises his support for bringing the Stone back to Perthshire.

Mr Swinney’s submission makes the case that returning the Stone to Perthshire is appropriate from both a historical and logistical point of view. Moreover, he argues that the return of the Stone will “consolidate and enhance Perth's stature and reputation.”

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“For over two decades, I have campaigned for the return of the Stone of Destiny to Perthshire. I am therefore both thrilled and proud that I have been able to formally submit my views on this subject to Commissioners for the Safeguarding of the Regalia.

“The campaign to bring the Stone back to Perthshire has been vigorous, forward-thinking and engaging. I am confident that this strength of feeling, and the powerful arguments for bringing the Stone home, have been properly evidenced in the broad range of submissions put forth in this consultation. I am hopeful that Perth’s bid will ultimately prove successful, and that we will soon be able to celebrate a significant cultural coup for the region.”
