Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has attended a meeting with the Transport Minister, Kevin Stewart MSP,  the A9 Birnam to Ballinluig Community Group and the Junctions Action Group to discuss A9 safety improvements and upcoming plans for dualling.

The meeting, organised by Mr Swinney, is the latest engagement with the Scottish Government and local residents within the area. Previous Transport Ministers, Graeme Dey MSP and Jenny Gilruth MSP, also met with Mr Swinney and community stakeholders.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“I was pleased to welcome Kevin Stewart MSP to Birnam, and to meet with local residents and groups to discuss the important issue of A9 safety improvements. The strength of any community is in its people and their active participation. Today's meeting reinforced the vital importance of community engagement, and I am grateful that the Scottish Government continues to listen and respond to the voices and concerns of locals.

“The Transport Minister’s attendance is a testament to the Scottish Government's steadfast commitment to the A9 dualling project. This significant infrastructure project not only promises enhanced safety for all road users but will also unlock economic development across the Highlands. Already, my constituents are benefiting from newly-dualled sections of the A9 and it is important that this progress continues. To that end, I was grateful to receive an update on the timetable for the selection of a preferred route for the Birnam to Ballinluig section of the A9.

“I also wish to pay tribute to the dedication of the A9 Birnam to Ballinluig Community Group and the Junctions Action Group. Their ongoing efforts and engagement in this process reflect the essence of what we aim to achieve - a community-driven approach to safety and development. I look forward to working with these groups and the Scottish Government in the months and years ahead as we continue the vital work of dualling the A9.”
