Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, has sponsored a Parliamentary event showcasing an artwork created by Perth Academy pupils.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Hand in Glove’, was originally launched in June 2017. It aims to highlight Perth’s historic glove-making trade using mixed media and photography, and was made possible through a donation by the Perth Incorporation of Glovers.

In addition to visiting the Parliament building to display their work, pupils were also delighted when the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, made a surprise visit to view their art and learn about the exhibition.

Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“It was a pleasure to welcome the pupils of Perth Academy to the Scottish Parliament.

“I was struck by the quality of their art and by how passionate they were in discussing their work. I commend both the pupils and their teacher, Alison Ferguson, on the significant contribution they have made to understanding this very important facet of Perth’s economic development

“It was great that the First Minister was able to attend, and she was clearly impressed by both the exhibition and the knowledge of the pupils.”
