Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, and Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart, have today welcomed news that the Rannoch Community Trust (RCT) have secured £134,660 of funding from the Scottish Land Fund (SLF).

The funding will facilitate the purchase and regeneration of the Kinloch Rannoch Outdoor Centre, with a view to turning the building into a community hub. The news follows Perth and Kinross Council’s decision to approve the transfer of the Outdoor Centre to RCT for £75,000. The funding from SLF includes £123,260 of capital funding to cover the purchase price plus associated legal and other fees as well as a contribution towards essential repairs, and £11,400 of revenue funding to help with initial set up costs including specialist business development support and training.

 Commenting, Mr Swinney said:

“I am thrilled to hear that Rannoch Community Trust have been successful in their application for funding.

“The transformation of the disused outdoor centre into a community hub will have a profound impact on the local community, offering a variety of services for both residents and visitors. It is particularly exciting that a pub will be included on the premises, meaning that locals will now have a place to meet and socialise within Kinloch Rannoch.

“I look forward to once more visiting with the team when circumstances allow, and I will continue to offer any support I can in their efforts to secure further funding.”

Mr Wishart added:

“This is great news for the Rannoch and Tummel community.

“The Outdoor Centre is a building of significant size and potential, and it was a shame to see it lying unused. In addition to providing employment opportunities, this project will have a galvanising effect on the local area. I warmly congratulate the team at RCT who have worked so hard to make this happen.”

As well providing a base for local community activities and services, the hub will also operate a number of income generating enterprises including a pub serving drinks and bar meals, bunkhouse style guest accommodation, and office and meeting space hire.
