Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, and Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart, have today thanked their constituents for the steps they are taking to limit the damage done by COVID-19.
Their comments come after more than a week of lockdown measures.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said:
“This is an unprecedented situation for our country, and the biggest challenge that the vast majority of us have faced in our lifetimes. It is therefore a source of great pride that the people of Perthshire have risen to the occasion so admirably.
“Following conversations with key local stakeholders, constituents, elected officials and Police Scotland, it is clear that the vast majority of individuals and businesses across the region are strictly adhering to the UK and Scottish Governments’ instructions. These sacrifices are quite literally saving lives and ensuring that our NHS is in the best possible position to deal with the challenges that the weeks and months ahead will bring.
“Whilst we are currently living in a state of uncertainty, I am confident that my constituents will continue to do their part in our nation’s battle against COVID-19.
“I know that what is being asked of us all is difficult, but I wish to reiterate how profoundly grateful I, and the Scottish Government, are for the daily sacrifices my constituents are making.”
Mr Wishart added:
“I really want to thank the people of Perthshire for the way that they have so readily and co-operatively gone along with the new instructions from Government around social distancing and staying at home. It is a big ask of people to turn their normal working and social arrangements on its head, but Perthshire has not been found wanting. As always in a time of crisis there are those that go beyond the normal call of duty and make a massive contribution to all of us in the community. Our health service, council staff and those that continue to serve the public have been magnificent and are to be congratulated for doing this in extraordinary circumstances.
“We don’t know yet how long these measures will be in place or whether further measures will be necessary but what everyone in doing is helping to save lives. Our NHS is coping with the demands placed on it, and so far Perthshire has escaped from the worst of the cases of infection. We will get through this by working together and doing everything possible to keep each other safe.”
