Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, and Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart, have today thrown their support behind the Tesco Food Collection campaign.
The annual food collection, which takes place between 16th-21st November in Tesco Express stores and 19th-21st in larger stores, is in support of the Trussell Trust and FareShare, and their efforts to support struggling communities across the country. In addition to the food donated, Tesco will donate an additional 20% in cash to the charities.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said:
“The efforts of the Trussell Trust, FareShare and Tesco are to be commended. In this unprecedented year, we know that many people are going to be struggling, and will be reliant upon the generosity of others.
“To that end, I would encourage any of my constituents that are in a position to donate to this worthy cause to do so. It is important that we rally around each other during these difficult times, and I have no doubt that the people of Perthshire will once more show their kindness and community spirit.”
Mr Wishart added:
“The work that the Trussell Trust and FareShare do is remarkable and I really welcome the work that Tesco are doing not only in collecting food donations, but in their financial contribution too. I would encourage any constituents who are able to, to consider contributing to the Tesco food collection the next time they are in store.”
In 2020, Tesco has also provided a £15m donation of food to the two charities and over the next few weeks, they will be providing an additional £4m of food to FareShare. Tesco customers have given more than 76m meals-worth of food to the Trussell Trust and Fareshare in Tesco stores since introduction of the annual Food Collection.
