Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, and Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart, have welcomed news that the Scottish Government will provide £1m of funding to the Crannog Centre in this financial year.
The funding was announced today by Jenny Gilruth MSP, Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development. It is part of an overall funding package of £2.3m, and will support the centre in its re-location to a new site.
Today’s announcement is the latest show of support for the Crannog Centre by the Scottish Government, following £51,000 of funding in August to help the centre recover from a fire at the site.
Commenting, Mr Swinney said:
“I am delighted by today’s announcement, which demonstrates once more the Scottish Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Crannog Centre.
“The Crannog Centre is one of Highland Perthshire’s most-beloved institutions, as evidenced by the overwhelming outpouring of public support following the fire at the centre earlier this year.
“It is a tribute to the management team that, in the aftermath of the fire, the centre is emerging stronger than ever.
“This latest investment from the Scottish Government will help secure the long-term future of the Crannog Centre and ensure that it can complete its move to a new site. This is truly wonderful news for all those involved with the centre, and I am hugely excited to see these ambitions plans come to fruition in the months and years ahead.”
Mr Wishart added:
"Today's announcement that the Scottish Government will provide the Crannog Centre with £1m this financial year is absolutely fantastic news.
"The fire that ravaged much of this world-renowned facility earlier in the year was a devastating blow for the entire community.
"This funding, as part of a £2.3m package, will allow the museum to be relocated to its new premises, and will uplift the local area.
"I thank the Scottish Government for this commitment. Investments like this are exactly what is needed to protect rural parts of Perthshire and ensure that that they continue to thrive for years to come."
